Max Verstappen hints at Lando Norris’ huge F1 potential after cheeky exchange

Max Verstappen has nodded towards the huge F1 potential of British youngster Lando Norris after McLaren's rising star joked that the pair now have 27 race wins between them – having never topped the podium himself.

Verstappen, 24, and Norris are two of the closest drivers on the circuit despite being with rival constructors – with the Dutchman on course to win a second Formula 1 World Championship in 2022.

The Red Bull Racing star has added seven race victories to his overall tally so far this year having won 10 times in 2021 and on another 10 occasions since his 2015 debut.

Verstappen was making note of the improved performances of Norris over the past two years of competing, with the youngster finishing in the top ten nine times so far in 2022.

Way back in 2019, Norris spoke about how sim racing brought them together.

He said: "I didn't know Max very well before, but I can say that we have become much better friends through sim racing. That is, of course, cool."

In the 2022 standings, Verstappen has a 63-point lead over Charles Leclerc and is also 70 clear of team-mate Sergio Perez.

He said of his progress: "We're halfway only so there are still a lot of races to go, and a lot of things can happen. I don't really look at that lead."
