F1 star Alex Albon is ‘pure chaos’ on the course, says golfer girlfriend

Alex Albon got his F1 career back on track in 2022 with a strong season with backmarkers Williams.

Albon had to sit out 2021 after being dropped by Red Bull at the end of 2020 following a chastening campaign as Max Verstappen’s teammate. But this year, the Thai driver has outperformed the pace of his car on several occasions even if it was only enough to collect four points as Williams finished at the foot of the constructors’ standings.

However, off the track, his golf game clearly needs some work, and in particular his conduct on the course. That’s according to his professional golfer girlfriend Lily Muni, who gave a humorous critique of his game following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“It’s been improving,” she told the F1 Nation podcast. “But he’s complete chaos on the course. If you imagine pure chaos, that’s Alex. Chaos and golf don’t go hand in hand.”

Albon then chipped in, admitting he struggles to adhere to the etiquette of the sport.

“The etiquette is quite formal, there are rules and there I am running around, hitting balls, losing balls,” he said. “When people are putting, I’m running around. When people are in their backswing, I’m laughing, I’m dancing. I think I embarrass Lily when I’m on the course.”

Muni added: “At the beginning, I was thinking ‘it'll be fun, we’ll get to spend quality time together while golfing’. But no, it’s pure chaos.

“It’s not the [him being a] beginner golfer that’s the issue, it’s the yelling, the swearing, him wanting to throw the club, the running around.”

Albon conceded: “When I play with Lily, she’s practising, she’s getting into tournament mode. It’s almost awkward.

“I’m trying to act professional, courteous but I’m not. As she says, apparently I’m chaos, and she’s not the only person saying that, so clearly I am.”
