Lewis Hamilton on difficult season for Mercedes in November

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has explained that he will take part in the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix after reports of him suffering an injury in the build-up to the race. It was reported that Sainz picked up an injury in a recent charity football match, but he has since allayed fears that it will harm his chances in Monaco.

Sainz’s Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly were also in action during the game, but the trio came through unscathed despite Leclerc’s unfortunate face-plant that went viral on social media.

Sainz, however, was spotted with strapping on his right thigh after being substituted off as he received treatment from the medical staff – prompting fears that he could miss this weekend’s Monaco GP.

He has since explained that there is no concerns over his fitness. Writing on Twitter, Sainz said: “Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I am well and completely ready to race this weekend in Monaco.

“What happened yesterday was simply a contact during the traditional charity football match, but it was not an injury. I enjoyed playing football as I always do and now I am really looking forward to the weekend. #StopInventing”
