Bathurst 1000 2020: Renee Gracie live updates, video, stream on kayo

Former Supercars driver Renee Gracie has slammed the sport for its attitude towards female drivers and fears there will not be anyone to follow in her footsteps for years to come.

On the eve of the season finale at the iconic Mount Panorama, Gracie says the treatment she received during her driving career and post illustrates the hypocrisy of a sport purporting to support women.

“For years I raced in development series and Supercars wanted to promote that I was a woman racing,” she told the Daily Telegraph.

“I was this “sex sells” figure. They wanted to benefit from it.

“Now I’m in the industry I am, and I’ve made the change, they want nothing to do with it.

“It’s funny, it’s so contradicting because they sold me as a “sex sells good looking driver” and now I’m in an industry where I make money from my good looks they want nothing to do with me.

“They claim to promote women. They push it. They want a female so bad but at the same time they don’t really.

"There are people in Supercars with old school mentalities. It’s 2020 some things have to change.

“It’s a tough industry for women and I don’t think we will see a female driver for a long time.”

Gracie started her Supercars career in 2015 with Paul Morris Motorsport. Her arrival on the grid ended a 14-year female driver hiatus.

Later that year she teamed up with Simona de Silvestro to become the first female pairing since Melinda Price and Kerryn Brewer in 1998. They finished 21st at Bathurst.

Twelve months later the duo came from 26th on the grid to finish 14th.
