You’ve gotta hand it to the Rams. After a tough 36-28 loss to the Packers in Green Bay, they came back with a get right game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a 37-7 clean win. Matthew Stafford had a solid 295 yards and three touchdowns, not to mention no interceptions. It broke a three-game interception streak for Stafford, who had five picks in that span. However, they have a tall task on Monday against the division rival and NFC-leading Cardinals.
Arizona is in the midst of a storybook season. It managed to drop just one game in Kyler Murray’s absence after being injured against the Packers. The Cardinals now lead the NFC despite a loss against the No. 2 Packers, and Murray didn’t appear to have missed a beat against the Bears. Much like Stafford and the Rams, however, a more stout opponent stands before Arizona this week.
When these teams met in October, the Cardinals laid the wood on Los Angeles in a 37-20 victory. Murray put up 268 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns in that game, while Chase Edmonds rushed for 120 yards himself. The Rams, however, have retooled since then. They traded for Von Miller before the deadline and added Odell Beckham Jr. to an already-deep receiving corps, making them the NFL’s best team in terms of name recognition. However, that hadn’t translated to results before last week.
This game might have some very real playoff implications for both teams. The 8-4 Rams are still looking to make a run at the 10-2 Cardinals atop the AFC West, but the 49ers are also closing ground on Los Angeles. With just five games remaining for both teams, keeping pace with each other will be key. The Rams are holding back a levy filled with NFC teams looking to break through, so a win on Monday would be key in gaining ground on several of them.
