Dolphins schedule 2020: Dates & times for all 16 games, strength of schedule, final record prediction

The strength of the Dolphins’ 2020 schedule is not irrelevant, but for a team that has reached double-digit wins just once in the last decade and is rebuilding with so many young players, Miami needs to focus on itself more than its 2020 opponents.

As for the Dolphins’ 2020 schedule, though, the rough road begins in the division, where the Bills, Jets and even the Tom Brady-less Patriots have better outlooks than that of Miami. The Dolphins likely will steal some wins against division rivals, but their slate outside of the AFC East will make a playoff push tough.

Simply based on last season’s records, the most winnable game on the Dolphins’ 2020 schedule is a home matchup with the Bengals. If both Tua Tagovailoa and Joe Burrow are healthy and starting for that game, it will go from one of the dullest games on both teams’ schedules to one of the most intriguing quarterback matchups of the 2020 season.

Here is a complete breakdown of the Miami Dolphins’ 2020 schedule, including dates and start times for all 16 games and our early prediction.

Dolphins strength of schedule & prediction

As is the case for all four AFC East teams, based on opponents’ records from last season, the Dolphins’ 2020 schedule is among the toughest in the NFL. Miami’s 2020 opponents went a combined 135-120-1 (.529) last season, placing the Dolphins third in NFL strength of schedule rankings behind the rival Patriots and Jets.

Of course, that doesn’t account for the league-wide changes from free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft. And with Brady now out of New England, it’s reasonable to expect the Patriots to be one of the teams on the Dolphins’ schedule that takes a step back this season.

Toughest tests: Miami is used to long road trips for away games, but adventures to San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver and Arizona will be particularly challenging this season with the Dolphins’ division matched up against the AFC and NFC Wests. While the Dolphins are fortunate to draw the Chiefs, Seahawks, Chargers and Rams at home, those are potentially brutal matchups.

Biggest breaks: Of those aforementioned long road trips outside of the division, only game against the 49ers pits the Dolphins against a playoff team from last season.

Bottom line: Because the Dolphins will depend so much on the rate of Tagovailoa’s development, their outlook for 2020 is among the most unpredictable in the NFL. But if all the young talent in Miami clicks, the schedule is such that the team can make some noise — just not yet in the playoffs.

Record prediction: 6-10
