It’s 100 per cent all about the main event this weekend at UFC 248.
Israel Adesanya is an outstanding fighter, he’s like the Anderson Silva of the new breed. I’m a huge fan of Yoel Romero too and for me, its just such a big-time matchup.
It’s two absolute warriors going at it, so that’s definitely the fight to look out for.
Adesanya vs Romero
For me, I’ve got to go with Israel, I think he’s going to win and win by TKO. Romero is an absolute beast though, so this is a hard one to call and I’m a big fan of his.
He’s 42 years old and the guy is a specimen! I just see Israel as the longer-ranged fighter and over a five-round fight, I think he will slowly pick apart Yoel until eventually getting a TKO win, probably in the later rounds. I’ve got a feeling it might come in the fourth or fifth. But for sure it’s going to be an exciting fight, and it will be interesting to see how Israel does against such a high-level wrestler.
There are 100 per cent easier fights out there for him, but a true champion likes to test themselves against the toughest there is. He’s confident in his skillset and he’s not just a ‘hype train’ like some people say.
UFC 248 Main Card
Israel Adesanya vs Yoel Romero
Zhang Weili vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Beneil Dariush vs Drakkar Klose
Neil Magny vs Li Jingliang
Alex Oliveira vs Max Griffin
I think Yoel is one of the toughest fights he could have taken and if he beats him, especially by finish, it puts him right up there. Obviously, he’s already the champion but it would be huge for his legacy.
Zhang vs Jedrzejczyk
I’m a big fan of Joanna Jedrzejczyk. I really want her to win but I just don’t think she’s going to. Weili Zhang is a specimen and I can’t see Joanna beating her. I just don’t see how she will be able to handle her power and I think Zhang is going to make it look easy, beating her in the first or second round. But as always with MMA, you’ll never know for certain until the fight’s over. As I say I’ll be rooting for Joanna, fingers crossed for her, I really like her and she’s a good friend of Brad Pickett, my coach.
Klose vs Dariush
I haven’t seen too much of either of these guys personally, but I’ve heard they are both super talented. Both men are coming into this one on the back of some solid wins, so a good victory should see the winner climb up the lightweight rankings. This could be a really exciting fight and might be going under the radar slightly.
Magny vs Jingliang
Similar to Jedrzejczyk, I want Neil Magny to win but I don’t see him getting the job done. If you just look at the size of him [Jingliang], he looks like an absolute beast and I think he will do the business. But I have been watching Magny for quite a long time now so I’m hoping he gets the win. A victory for either guy will be huge given how talented the welterweight division is at the moment.
Oliveira vs Griffin
It’s a tough one to call but I’m going to go with Max Griffin. Both men could really do with a win so we could be in for an absolute war. Again, I’m expecting this one to be a really entertaining bout.
The Prospect’s Fight to Watch
Aside from the main event, another fight I’ll also be keeping an eye out for in the prelims is Sean O’Malley vs Jose Quinonez.
Obviously, I’d like Quinonez to win as he is a former opponent, but a lot of people have been talking about me potentially fighting O’Malley. He’s mentioned my name a few times on Twitter, so I wouldn’t mind seeing him get taken apart a little bit! But if he does get the win maybe we could get a fight on. I’m always looking to fight guys that are higher ranked than me so obviously if Quinonez wins,
Fighting Quinonez doesn’t do anything for me (as I beat him a year ago.) But O’Malley has a massive following, I think he’s got half a million followers on Instagram, so I’d happily beat him if it gets me a few more followers on social media!
