Photo of Conor McGregor as a kid shows UFC icon with cute smile and long locks

Conor McGregor treated fans to a glimpse into his past by sharing an adorable childhood photo with his social media followers.

The former UFC double champion has made a career out of his fighting prowess and often abrasive public persona.

But there is clearly a lighter side to the Irishman, as he showed when giving fans a glimpse of his childhood.

On his Twitter account, he shared a photo of himself as a young boy, complete with long blonde locks and an adorable little smile.

It was taken in public, with young McGregor at the front of a crowd on the streets of Dublin to celebrate Ireland's patron saint.

Written alongside the photo was the caption:" It's almost time for the St. Patrick's day parade again guys, who's excited?"

Some followers were shocked at how adorable the MMA fighter looked in his youth.

"WOW. Such innocence. Hardly anyone around you would've known that this kid will one day conquer the World. Respect," wrote one fan.

And another added: "Aww look at that white hair – so cute."

Meanwhile, some others noticed that his hairstyle as a youngster meant that he had a resemblance to another UFC fighter.

"Makes sense why Conor likes Paddy Pimblett," said another fan, who spotted a likeness to the Liverpudlian fighter.

Another went one step further, posting a photoshopped version of the image in which young McGregor's face had been replaced with a current picture of Pimblett.

"You know the Scousers get everywhere, we can even travel back in time," the fan wrote in the caption.

McGregor is currently gearing up for a return to the UFC, after eight months away from action following a horror leg break the last time he was in the octagon.

He has spent much of that time recovering from the injury he suffered in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier last July, and is expected to make his fighting return this year now that he is back in full training.

Away from the UFC scene, Notorious is also keen on expanding his business empire into the football world, having already made millions from his alcohol brands.

McGregor was quick to throw his hat in the ring for the chance to buy Chelsea, after Roman Abramovich announced he would be selling the club.

His opening bid is said to have fallen some way short of the current asking price, but the Irishman insists his interest is no publicity stunt.

He once again took to social media to reveal that he had given serious thought to investing in Scottish giants Celtic and Manchester United, as well as his bid for the Blues.

"I do not speak in jest," McGregor tweeted on Sunday.

"I am exploring this, as I said. Celtic from Dermot Desmond, Manchester United from the Glazers, and now the recently up for sale Chelsea football club. All being explored.

"A football franchise purchase is in my future, make no mistake about it."
