Jake Paul and Hasim Rahman Jr get into war of words over fight cancellation

Jake Paul and Hasim Rahman Jr have clashed in a war of words after their fight was cancelled on Saturday night.

Paul made the revelation that the highly-anticipated boxing match at Madison Square Garden, New York, was binned with refunds set to be handed out. He accused his rival of refusing to cut down to the original 200lb weight limit while claiming Rahman Jr was only willing to fight at 215lbs.

The ‘Problem Child’ added it was “clear as day” that the 31-year-old son of two-time heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman was scared to fight him as planned on August 6.

Paul released a lengthy video on social media where he said: "Hasim Rahman Jr has pulled out of the fight. This is not a joke, I am devastated, I cannot f***ing believe this; we just found out this news. This is another case of a professional boxer, just like Tommy Fury, being scared to fight me.

"It is as clear as day that these guys have been so unprofessional to work with, looking for any excuse to suck more money out of this event, to coerce us into doing things and I knew from the jump that this guy didn't want to get in the ring with me.

"The biggest pay day of his life times 10 and he's fumbling it. For what? Because he knows he's going to get knocked out by me. The pressure starts to set in and it's exactly what happens with all these guys. I'm sick of it, I'm devastated and I apologise to everyone on the undercard.

"This is absurd but there's nothing I can do about it; I apologise to the fans and I'll be back at some point."

It comes after the initial disappointment of Paul twice having bouts with Tommy Fury, brother of heavyweight champion Tyson, cancelled as a result of the Brit pulling out. Fury’s latest cancellation came last month after being denied entry into the US, and now Rahman Jr has allegedly followed suit.

Yet the 12-1 boxer has since hit back at Paul’s claims, responding on Twitter: "Jake and his 'team' cancelled this fight, not me! The fight isn’t happening on there accord not MINE!" He then retweeted several users who claimed it was Paul who had backed out of the bout.

Though Rahman also admitted he signed a contract to fight at 200lbs though has been unable to cut down to the weight. This one is set to rumble on.
