Conor McGregor was left confused by a surprise drug test while on holiday after announcing his retirement from MMA earlier this year.
The UFC’s biggest star again called time on his career after the coronavirus pandemic forced McGregor to stand still having initially planned for a busy 2020 of fighting.
McGregor beat Donald Cerrone last January, but is considered a rare breed of MMA stars too big to fight behind closed doors.
The Irishman is currently on holiday after months of lockdown in Ireland, but was surprised by the arrival of United States Anti-Doping Agency personnel, the UFC’s anti-doping partner, on his yacht.
He said: ‘What’s going on here UFC? USADA have just arrived to my yacht this morning for testing?
‘I’ve retired guys! But go on then, I’ll allow them test me. It’s all natural here baby! Forever and always, God Bless.
‘180km across the Mediterranean Sea tomorrow! LET’S GO!’
McGregor must officially give notification of his retirement, with athletes required to keep their Whereabouts file up to date so USADA can track their movements for testing.
The two-weight UFC champion has never failed a drug test and gave a shout out to Nate Diaz, his long-time rival and another vocal anti-doping voice in MMA.
‘Juice head rats, Nate Diaz,’ McGregor posted below his original tweet about USADA testing him.
While McGregor has been sidelined, Dana White and the UFC have been holding events behind closed doors throughout the worsening pandemic in America.
The MMA promotion has also been to Abu Dhabi for international fights and McGregor’s old rival Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to make his comeback on ‘Fight Island’ against interim champion Justin Gaethje next month.
