Former US President Donald Trump is set to attend UFC 264 in a rare public appearance since losing the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden.
Trump is one of a number of celebrities set to watch Conor McGregor’s trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier, and will be joined by the likes of Justin Bieber, comedian Dave Chappelle, NBA star Kevin Durant, actor Mel Gibson, and Kourtney Kardashian.
Interestingly, Trump’s affiliation with MMA has spanned many years.
Between 2008 and 2009, Trump’s Affliction Entertainment hosted two major MMA events which featured former UFC champions Tim Sylvia, Vitor Belfort, and Andrei Arlovski as well as Fedor Emelianenko, widely considered the greatest heavyweight of all time.
The promotion collapsed just a year and four days after it was founded due to enormous overspending, which included paying Arlovski $7,732 per second of his 3-minute bout with Emelianenko.
Since, Trump has formed a close relationship with UFC President Dana White, even going as far as to praise White at an election rally late last year.
"He is so smart, so tough, so cunning, " Trump said.
"He's been a friend of mine for a long time. I've been a friend of his.
"He also loves his fighters. He wants to take care of his fighters and he brought some of them along, the best."

Trump also became the first sitting US president to attend a UFC event, when he watched Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz’s clash at UFC 244 in 2019. He was heavily booed at the event.
UFC 264 takes place on July 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada and is shaping up to be a brilliant night of fights.
