English Open TV coverage: What channel is English Open snooker on?

The first tournament of the Home Nations series for the 2020/21 snooker season is here. The English Open takes place at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes as the players battle it out for the Steve Davis Trophy.

Mark Selby is the defending champion after beating David Gilbert in last year’s final.

But the ‘Jester from Leicester’ can expect stiff competition from six-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan and world No 1 Judd Trump.

The winner of this year’s event will be awarded £70,000 in prize money, with £30,000 going to the runner-up.

O’Sullivan claimed his first win since lifting his sixth world title by coming behind to beat French youngster Brian Ochoiski 4-2 at the English Open.

“It was a tough match,” the Rocket said.

“Every time I played a certain shot I expected him to play a certain shot but he didn’t.

“So I thought I might as well just go for everything, push the boat out and play as carefree as he was. It worked out all right.”

Defending champion Mark Selby continued his recent resurgence by sailing past Fan Zhengyi 4-0 in the first round.

Selby had already rebounded from his agonising World Championship semi-final defeat to O’Sullivan by winning the European Masters at the same venue last month.

And the 37-year-old former world No 1 believes that under new coach Chris Henry he can emerge stronger from the unexpected career dip that followed his third world title win in 2017.

Selby said: “I’m full of confidence at the moment.

“I was getting frustrated more than anything else, working hard in practice and getting no results.

“I felt that rather than sitting back and going through the motions I needed to change something, so I went to see Chris Henry and it seems to be working.”
