Bull-rider Amadeu Campos Silva has passed away in hospital at the age of just 22 following an incident at the Professional Bull Riders' Velocity Tour event in California.
During the Classic Man showpiece, Campos Silva was unseated after just five seconds and suffered severe injuries after being stomped on by the animal.
After he was rushed to the Community Regional Medical Center nearby, he was sadly pronounced dead with the PBR later offering prayers to his family and friends.
Their statement on Instagram reads: "It is with extremely heavy hearts that we report that Amadeu Campos Silva passed away at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, California. Where he had been transported following a severe accident during his bull ride at today's PBR Velocity Tour Event.
"The entire PBR and Western Sports family extend our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences to Amadeu's family and friends."
Cody Lambert, the livestock manager for the PBR, has described the incident as a freak accident.
He said: "When he came off, his spur got tangled up and it turned him upside down right under the bull’s back leg. "It’s just a really freak, tragic accident."
Andrew Giangola, also of the PBR, has said that the bull didn't do anything unusual during the event.
He explained: "This was not an act of aggression.
"The bull was bucking in his normal pattern. Amadeu’s spur got hung up in the flank rope, and he was pulled under the bull in a freak accident."
With tribute being paid, Campos Silva has been described as a promising young bull rider, having joined the PBR US Tour following similar events in his native Brazil.
